Stems and Branches and the Chinese Calendar AS101 (also available on line)
You cannot understand the finer points of Chinese studies such as Feng Shui, Yi Jing, Astrology, Day Selection, etc. without understanding the Stems and Branches. The Stems and the Branches are some of the oldest Chinese characters. They were found often on the oracle bones, making them more than 4000 years old. They represent the cycles of the energies of heaven and the energies of earth, and have a profound effect on our well-being. They are based on yin and yang and the five elements, but have many other aspects to them. A good foundation in the Chinese calendar is also necessary. Most Westerners do not know that the Chinese had a solar calendar as well as a lunar one. In Feng Shui, we use the solar calendar, and serious Feng Shui students need to understand how this calendar works. Zi Wei Dou Shu astrology uses the lunar calendar, so this will also be discussed. This class will enable the student to understand the information presented in other classes so that they can apply those techniques accurately. It is a pre-requisite for some of the classes in Weeks 2 and 3 of the Intensive.
Date: Sunday, June 15, 2008; 2 to 5 pm
***

Week 2: More Advanced Feng Shui Classes
The first two days of this week will be Feng Shui Case Study Classes. In these, Master Sang shares some interesting and informative cases from his files. Case studies are important to show the real-world application of Feng Shui and to illustrate certain circumstances that tend to bring about a particular outcome. In addition, sentences from the old Chinese memorization poems about Feng Shui will be discussed. The ancients crystallized their knowledge into these poems, which are still relevant in Feng Shui readings today.

Case Study 1 and 2 FS301 and FS302 (not available on line)
* What makes occupants seldom stay home
* Why occupants of a house tend to like to drink alcohol
* Why female occupants in a house tend to look younger and prettier
* Why an occupant hangs himself
* Why an occupant needs surgery
* Why an occupant had throat cancer
* Construction tips related to the 5 yellow star and the door
Date: Monday, June 16, 2008; 10 am to 5 pm
Prerequisite: FS201 Advanced Feng Shui, Stems and Branches AS101

Case Study 9 and 10 FS309 and FS310 (not available on line)
* Why the eldest son gets injured soon after moving in
* Why an older male hurts a young female
* Why a mother leaves her husband and family
* We will teach you how to make use of the external environment to enhance your prosperity, or how to custom-make your environment to maximize your luck.
* We will look at the influence of the Pre-Heaven sequence of the Trigrams and its relationship to the Luo Shu (the Post-Heaven arrangement, commonly used in Feng Shui).
Date: Tuesday, June 17, 2008; 10 am to 5 pm
Prerequisite: FS201 Advanced Feng Shui

The following three days are a detailed introduction into Yin House Feng Shui, the art and science of determining a proper grave site. Yin House is important, not only to give your ancestors a comfortable resting place, but also because a grave site has an important influence on the fortunes of the next three generations. The complete details of Yin House reading cannot be contained in three days of class, but a good start can be made in this time. Yin House Feng Shui is rarely taught in the West, so this is a great opportunity.

Yin House Feng Shui, Introduction to the Environment (New Class, not available on line)
This class goes over the principles of selecting a good environment for a grave site. Some of these principles are quite different from Yang House (buildings for the living).
Date: Wednesday, June 18, 2008; 10 am to 5 pm
Prerequisite: FS201 Advanced Feng Shui

Yin House Feng Shui, Introduction to the Qi Calculation (New Class, not available on line)
This class discusses the effect of time and compass orientation on a Yin House reading.
Date: Thursday, June 19, 2008; 10 am to 5 pm
Prerequisite: FS201 Advanced Feng Shui, Stems and Branches AS101

Yin House Feng Shui, Field Trip (New Class, not available on line)
We will visit some nearby cemeteries to practice applying the principles learned in the previous two days. Students will carpool, so please let us know if you are willing to drive.
Date: Friday, June 20, 2008; 10 am to 5 pm (If you are catching an airplane after class, please leave extra time in case traffic and circumstances cause delays.)
Prerequisite: FS201 Advanced Feng Shui

Week 3: Zi Wei Dou Shu Astrology Classes
Zi Wei Dou Shu is a Chinese astrology that describes your past, present and future in twelve life categories, such as Career, Spouse, Travel, etc. It involves numerous calculations to locate more than 100 stars, and a complex system of interpretation based on a lifetime reading, ten-year and one-year periods of time. This method was developed in the Song Dynasty, about 1000 years ago. It is still popular in China today. Zi Wei Dou Shu astrology offers great detail and wonderful insight but this class is intense, and the calculations are fairly sophisticated. We give more than a hundred pages of handouts.
Required Materials: Ten-Thousand Year Calendar. We offer an ebook version in English for $26 on our Website (www.amfengshui.com).

Zi Wei Dou Shu, Day 1 AS201 (also available on line)
Set up a chart and place the Fourteen Major Stars to get a description of the personality and lifetime trends.

Time is factored in so you can make predictions for the future and see the events of the past.
Date: Wednesday, June 25, 2008; 10 am to 5 pm
Prerequisite: Zi Wei Dou Shu Day 2 AS211

Zi Wei Dou Shu, Case Study 5 AS315 (New Class, not available on line)

Date: Thursday, June 26, 2008; 10 am to 5 pm
Prerequisite: Zi Wei Dou Shu Day 3 AS301

Laozi’s Dao De Jing (New Class, not available on line)
The Dao De Jing has been the most important classic of Daoism for about 2,500 years. In it, Laozi tells us how to live a life that is satisfying and free from constraint. The secret is in emulating the flexibility and softness of water, in emptying, rather than filling. Master Sang has long studied the Dao De Jing and feels it holds the key to a life that is meaningful.
Date: Friday, June 27, 2008; 10 am to 5 pm

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Hello Everyone,

We are excited to announce in-person classes in Zi Wei Dou
Shu, a method of Chinese astrology and fate calculation. While
this class is already available on-line, we have had many requests
to give it again in the classroom. There is a description of the class
below, but here are some of the details:

This is a three day class and will be held Monday through
Wednesday,October 29th through 31st (10am to 5pm). The
location is in our classroom in Monterey Park, California, near Los
Angeles. The cost is $450.00US per person for the three day class
($30.00 per day for repeating students). You will receive a
certificate of completion.

There is a prerequisite class, AS101 The Stems and Branches and
the Chinese Calendar. This class is available on line, but we will
also have it in the classroom on Sunday, October 28th from
2-5 pm. The cost is $75.00 ($30.00 for repeating students). If
you have already taken this class, please review it before coming
for Zi Wei Dou Shu, as it will help you follow the class material.

Please call or email us to reserve your seat in these classes. We
ask a $50 deposit for each class. If enrollment is insufficient, the
class will be cancelled.
626/571-2757 or fsinfo@amfengshui.com

If you want to take these classes on-line, you may sign up
for them at
http://www.amfengshui.com/ashop/catalogue.php?exp=5|&cat=15

The instructor for these classes will be Lorraine Wilcox.

Here are the class descriptions:

AS201 Zi Wei Dou Shu Astrology
Available on-line anytime or in person October 29-31, 10-5 pm
in the Institute Classroom

Zi Wei Dou Shu is a widely used system of fate calculation in
China, but is not well known in the West. It is surprisingly accurate
in describing the personality of a subject’s chart. Zi Wei (the Purple
Emperor) is the leading star when making a chart. Dou Shu means
calculation. Zi Wei Astrology has been growing in popularity in
recent years. Few teach this subject, preferring to keep it
mysterious.

The American Feng Shui Insitute is teaching this art with the hope
of bringing a clearer understanding of Chinese Astrology to the
general public. Zi Wei Dou Shu is a Chinese astrology that
describes your past, present and future in twelve life categories,
including career, spouse, travel, and money. Zi Wei Dou Shu
involves numerous calculations to locate stars (more than
100 stars), and a complex system of interpretation based on a
lifetime reading, ten-year,one-year and month-long periods of
time.

This method was developed in the Song Dynasty, about 1000 years
ago. It is still popular in China today. This is a serious course that
involves a fair amount of calculation, but the rewards are great.
With practice, you can understand a person’s true nature and read
their past, present, and future.

Prerequisite: AS101OL - The Stems & Branches and access to a
10,000 year calendar.
***

AS101 The Stems and Branches and the Chinese Calendar
Available on-line any time or in person on Sunday, October
28, 2-5 pm in the Institute Classroom

The stems and branches are the way the ancient Chinese
measured time as well as space. Therefore, they are essential
elements of, and the gateway to Feng Shui, Chinese astrology,
day selection, and Yi Jing calculation arts. A good foundation in
the Chinese calendar is also necessary.

This class teaches you what you need to know about the stems
and branches and the Chinese calendar so that you have a
foundation for studying the Chinese arts and sciences.

The stems and the branches are some of the oldest Chinese
characters. They were often found on the oracle bones, making
them more than 4000 years old. They represent the cycles of
heaven and earth, and have a profound effect on our well-being.
They are based on yin and yang and the five elements, but have
many other aspects to them.

Most Westerners do not know that the Chinese have always had a
solar calendar as well as a lunar one. In this class, you learn to
understand these two aspects of the Chinese calendar, as well as
the Chinese view of the seasons. In addition, you learn how to
convert a date from the Western calendar into the Chinese
calendar.

In the old days in China, this material would need to be mastered
before a teacher would even begin Feng Shui instruction. However,
today in the West it is more often taught after a student has
studied Feng Shui for a certain period of time. Our recommendation
is that the student already has some familiarity with the foundation
theories of yin yang and the five elements.

This class is theoretical in nature. Practical application of the
stems and branches are given in other classes, such as day
selection, zi wei dou shu astrology, four pillars, yi jing calculation
arts, and more advanced Feng Shui methods. The material in this
class is NOT intuitive. It is calculation-based. This class is for
those who are serious about deepening their ability to work with
the Chinese calculation arts.

This class is a prerequisite for Zi Wei Dou Shu and other classes.
You need a Ten-Thousand Year Calendar for the class and for Zi
Wei Dou Shu. This is available as an ebook on our web page.

New Class: Zi Wei Dou Shu Case Study 3

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Hi All,

We have a new class: Zi Wei Dou Shu Case Study 3. Here is a description.

Master Sang shares his years of experience and some of his Zi Wei Dou Shu case studies with graduates of his Zi Wei Dou Shu class. This class will teach how to read all possible combinations of the Fourteen Major Stars in the annual Ming (fate) palace. In addition, you will learn how to calculate some other stars that influence the annual reading. This class also contains three interesting and informative case studies and a new calculation to determine in which years health problems will develop.

You can register for any of the Zi Wei Dou Shu Classes at
http://www.amfengshui.com/ashop/catalogue.php?exp=5|&cat=15

For those who don’t know, Zi Wei Dou Shu is a type of Chinese astrology that is quite wonderful for understanding personalities and predicting events. The basic classes are divided into five parts, and at this point, we have two more advanced classes available on line. There will be additional advanced classes in the future too.

Hope you enjoy them!

Lorraine

How do I enroll for classes at the American Feng Shui Institute?

For our online classes, you can enroll and start a class at anytime on our website. Go to www.amfengshui.com. We have a free online seminar.

For classes in our Monterey Park (near downtown Los Angeles) classroom, reservations are necessary and seats are on a first come first serve basis. To reserve your seat, a $50 deposit is required and is non-refundable if cancellation by student takes place less than three days before class. Please contact the Institute by phone or fax to reserve your seat. Reservations must be made no less than one week in advance. We accept checks, money orders or credit cards for deposits. The balance of the class fee is due on the day of the class.

Do I receive a Certificate after the classes?

You will receive a certificate of completion from the American Feng Shui Institute for the Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Feng Shui classes. These are our foundation classes and are the pre-requisites for our advanced study courses. Please do not confuse this with certification or licensing, as there are no requirements for practitioners at this time.

What happens after I complete the Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Feng Shui foundation courses?

As a student of the Institute, we are available to assist you with your continued study. We offer many advanced level courses for deeper study and provide a free online discussion Bulletin Board for questions and answers. You will obtain access to the Bulletin Board upon completion of the Advanced Feng Shui class. Due to the complexity of the courses, Graduates may repeat any class that you have already taken, for $30.00 per day, pending available seats.
Please see our online course catalog for the most current course offerings.

What are the technical requirements for your online courses?

The online classes require Netscape version 4 or higher or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4 or higher. We recommend that you have the latest version of whichever browser you choose. The Advanced Feng Shui Class Slide Show requires Internet Explorer 5 or higher, or Netscape 6. For Audio, you can use Real Player or Windows Media Player 9. The on-line classes are self-paced study modules. They are segmented into four, one-week lessons that lead you at your pace, over the four-week course. You have 60 days to complete the coursework. For our online classes, you can sign up and start a class at anytime on our website. Go to www.amfengshui.com.

On-Line classes with the American Feng Shui Institute feature:

* Easy navigation
* Self tests at the end of each module
*An online Discussion Board with trained Institute instructors.
*Audio Clips for pronunciation
*An “Instant Feedback” final exam
* Self-paced study modules over four, one-week lessons

Is the American Feng Shui Institute accredited?

We are registered with the State of California. Registration means we have met certain minimum standards imposed by the state for registered schools on the basis our written application to the state. Registration does not mean we have met all of the more extensive standards required by the state for schools that are approved to operate or licensed or that the state has verified the information we submitted with out registration form. There currently are no accreditation standards for Feng Shui schools.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

All institutional charges shall be returned to the registrant less a $50.00 cancellation fee, if cancellation notice is received prior to or on the first day of instruction. The AFSI classroom is located a few miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

The first week is our basic series of Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Feng Shui Classes, plus a day for questions and answers, a chance for students to ask Master Sang questions on any topic.

Server Move and other things

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Hi all,

I just want to report that the server move is complete!   After an entire weekend of technical stuff that makes my head spin, all of the Institute’s websites are on a new server at a new hosting company.  This includes

http://www.amfengshui.com (English)

http://www.amfengshui.jp (Japanese)

http://www.amfengshui-vn.com (Vietnamese)

http://www.amfengshui.cn (Chinese)

http://www.amfengshui.us (Spanish)

There are still some minor things that are appearing as the dust settles, but we are taking care of that as they are brought to our attention.   Should you run across anything that doesn’t seem to function as it should, please bring it to our attention.  Right now we are still cleaning up old links and making sure that the navigation does not end up with a “Page not found” error.

Additionally, we have now incorporated a new blogging and presentation software called Wordpress, which will allow us to post more pages to our site, without having to code every one. This will also make it easier and faster for us to correct any typographical errors on the site.

We hope that these changes will make this site more valuable, faster, and easier for you to use.  If you have any comments or thoughts, please email me at chris@amfengshui.com
