Hi Tina,

It is actually really easy once you learn the trick!

Summary:
1. Save File in .gif or .jpg or .png format with a unique name.
2. Use a service such as Photobucket.com to store the image online.
3. Copy the BB code from Photobucket and paste it to your post here. Be sure to the BB code has the img brackets as shown below.
Code:
[img]http://www.amfengshui.com/files/myhouse.jpg[/img]

4. Save post.

In Detail:
You need to save the image as a .jpg file and the name needs to be without spaces.

Example: myhouse1.jpg

I will pretend this is the file I am using later in this message. You can call it anything you want, but my recommendation is that the name is 8 letters or less, lowercase, and no spaces.

You can create a .jpg file with any good paint program. An inexpensive program that I like is Paint Shop Pro. A free program to edit images is the gimp.

Then click HERE! to upload the image You may bookmark this for future reference.

This will then take you to the upload page where you can select the file by clicking on "Browse..."

Select the file from your hard drive and click okay. You will see the path name in the form. Click on upload and the file will be loaded to the server.

Then create the post and below where you type the message there is a button called IMAGE (bottom right). Click on this button and a screen will pop up that asks for the URL (the address or what I call the path) of where the file is. Enter the following:

Code:
http://www.amfengshui.com/files/myhouse1.jpg

Then press return/enter and the file path is placed into your post.

When you post your message it should show up. It it does not, then you have a mistake in the name, the capitalization of the name, or you did not type the path correctly. MyHouse.jpg is a different file than myhouse.jpg or MYHOUSE.JPG. Make sure that your letter case matches the filename EXACTLY!

If you got the name and path correct then it should appear!

Best of luck!

Chris

P.S. Please use a unique name for your post, using your initials at the beginning of the name or similar. Remember, it should be a short name and have no spaces. All lowercase is easiest as well.

P.S. It is jpeg not jpig! [Wink]

The file name is either referred to as jpeg or jpg.

Hi, Chris
I posted this on the Advance class BB, but I can not get the pictures display. Under the topic M>A Analysis. Please help, what did I do wrong, I followed your instruction step by step and still can not get them up.
Here it is:
" Thanks for the response, I am still not clear on something, please look at the pictures below:

http://www.amfengshui.com/files/VuHs1st.jpeg

That the 1st floor of the house, as you can see if they are not using the main entrance NW, 3p 2m because this will make the potential more likely to happen, so the only door that they can go in is by the garage door which is at the SW, S, and SE. Even if there is another door (at the center) to go from the garage to the house, we still consider that the other entrance will be at SW, S, and SE, is this correct.

Hi Tina,

Your file is actually called VuHs1st.jpg not .jpeg.

While they are called this interchangeably, you have to use the exact name in the post on the board to match the file you placed there.

Please edit your post and you will find that it will appear once the name is correct.

Hi, Chris
I change the extention of the file from jpeg to jpg and posted it suceesful. The only problem is the picture become so big, it print to several pages instead on one page per picture. I scanned the image with 300 dpi, could that be the problem. Do you have a guide line for this?
Thanks

Hi,

Regarding the size of the photo scan, 300 dpi (dots per inch) is fine, but that is the quality, not the size. You probably do not want more than 500 pixels wide or more than 400 pixels in height.

I recommend Paint Shop Pro because it has a resize function that works nicely. It also compresses the size of the jpg files.

Hi,

Open the picture in an editing program and reduce the size to the sizes I mentioned above. Then re-upload the picture and it will correct your post.

Hi Chris,
You mentioned that the Image button is at the bottom right but I could not find any image button at the bottom right but top right.

There was no screen popped up when I clicked on the "Img" button on the top right.

What did I do wrong?
Also, is the file in pdf format with file size 70kB ok? I have not figured out how to put the floor plan in jpg except from converting it from pdf which makes the file size even larger.

Look forward to your advice.

Thanks,
Chew

Hi,

I am not sure which instructions you are reading. It sounds like those are out of date, so please let me know where you got those instructions from.

On the Post screen (where you type your message), you would type in the address of "http://www.amfengshui.com/files/yourfile.jpg" Then highlight the address and click on "Img" which is a button above the field where you post your message. This will put the proper code around the address.

You can reference a .pdf file, but do not use the Img button. It will appear as a link. When people click on it, it will open in a new window and show the pdf.

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks.

I got the info from one of the old message above in this post.

I think I know what to do now. I don't even need the img button if I type in the link to the pdf file.

Thanks again.

Hi Chris,
I tried to upload my floorplan called twosuites.jpg following your instructions, but got this message: Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /classes/bbfiles/cgi-bin/file-upload.cgi on this server.

This is the first time I've tried uploading a file since the new bulletin board (actually the first time I've ever tried to upload an image on the bulletin board), but I am able access the Feng Shui bulletin board to read and reply to topics.

Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for your help,
Ann

Hi Ann,

Please try again. This was a bug from when we moved to a new server a couple of weeks ago. I guess you were the first to try it. It is now working.

Thanks for pointing that out! Very Happy

Chris

Hi Chris,
I can upload easily now - thanks! But...(there's always a but, huh) I can't get the image to show up in the post called "One business, two orientations." Here's what I entered:

I even tried this:
http://www.amfengshui.com/files/twosuites.jpg
but "page not found" came up.

Let me know what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks much, Ann
